SANDVIK — turntable shot blasting machine
July 17, 2025

Qingdao Jinwo Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a professional manufacturer of shot blasting equipment, has successfully completed the full-set installation project of the turntable shot blasting machine for SANDVIK.

The turntable shot blasting machine series is mainly used for cleaning and strengthening small parts such as small gears, gear shafts, connecting rods, crankshafts, and diaphragm springs. The key component of Jinwo Machinery's turntable shot blasting machine is the turntable used to process workpieces. This type of equipment is most suitable for processing symmetrical parts. The turntable can also be positioned at a certain angle. Cooperating with several multi-point positioning blast wheels, it can realize the processing of asymmetrical parts. Jinwo Machinery has developed a variety of turntable shot blasting machines to meet the needs of customers for material turnover. The turntable shot blasting machine is an efficient surface treatment equipment, which mainly cleans or strengthens the surface of workpieces by spraying abrasives (such as steel shots, iron shots, etc.) at high speed. Its core feature is to make the workpieces receive shots evenly with the help of a rotatable worktable (turntable). The following is a detailed description from the aspects of main cleaning functions and core components:

I. Main Cleaning Functions

The core function of the turntable shot blasting machine is to automatically clean and pre-treat the surface of various workpieces, including:

Surface Derusting

Remove rust and oxide scale on the surface of castings, forgings, weldments, etc., especially suitable for workpieces with complex shapes or dead corners (such as automobile wheels, engine blocks, hardware accessories, etc.). The rotation of the turntable ensures that all surfaces are evenly stressed.

Removal of Impurities

Clean oil stains, sediment, old coatings (such as paint, plating), burrs or molding sand remaining in casting on the surface of workpieces, providing a clean surface foundation for subsequent processes such as painting, electroplating, and welding.

Surface Strengthening

Some models can strengthen the surface of workpieces by controlling the abrasive jet intensity (such as springs, gears, etc.). The plastic deformation caused by the impact of shot peening is used to improve surface hardness and fatigue strength, and extend the service life of workpieces.

Efficient Batch Processing

Suitable for small and medium batch or continuous production, the turntable can be equipped with automatic feeding / unloading devices to realize the automatic process of "loading - cleaning - unloading" and improve production efficiency.

II. Core Components

The structure of the turntable shot blasting machine needs to meet the closed-loop process of "abrasive jet - workpiece rotation - waste recycling", which is mainly composed of the following systems:

Turntable System

The core component is the rotating worktable (turntable), which is driven by a motor and can rotate at a set speed (usually adjustable from 0 to 10r/min) at a constant speed, carrying the workpiece and ensuring that all surfaces of the workpiece receive shot peening evenly.
The surface of the turntable is usually paved with wear-resistant liners (such as high manganese steel) to prevent direct wear of the table surface by abrasives.

Blast Wheel System

Including blast wheel, motor and impeller, it is the "power source" of the equipment. The blast wheel accelerates the abrasive to 80-100m/s through high-speed rotation (the rotation speed can reach 2000-3000r/min), forming a dense shot flow to spray onto the surface of the workpiece.
The number of blast wheels is designed according to the size of the workpiece and cleaning requirements, usually 1-4, symmetrically distributed above or on the side of the turntable to ensure no cleaning dead angle.

Sealed Cleaning Chamber

A closed space welded by steel plates, with wear-resistant rubber or high manganese steel guard plates lined inside to prevent abrasive splashing and noise leakage. The cleaning chamber is equipped with workpiece inlets and outlets (which can be equipped with pneumatic / manual doors) to ensure tightness during operation.

Abrasive Circulation System

Recovery device: including screw conveyor and hoist, used to collect abrasives and waste (such as rust, sand) at the bottom of the cleaning chamber.

Separation device: separate qualified abrasives from impurities through a separator (such as air separator). The pure abrasives are sent back to the blast wheel for recycling, and the impurities are discharged to the waste box.

Dust Removal System

Composed of a fan, filter cartridge dust collector, etc., it is used to extract dust (such as metal debris, abrasive particles) generated during the cleaning process, purify the working environment, and meet environmental protection requirements.

Control System

Usually controlled by PLC, it can set parameters such as turntable speed, shot blasting time, and abrasive flow. Some models are equipped with touch screens, supporting automatic operation and fault alarm, which is convenient for debugging and mass production.

Application Scenarios

Turntable shot blasting machines are widely used in automobile manufacturing, engineering machinery, aerospace, hardware processing and other industries, especially suitable for surface treatment of small and medium batch workpieces, such as: derusting and cleaning of auto parts (gearbox housings, brake discs); removal of molding sand and oxide scale from castings (such as machine tool beds, pump bodies); deburring and surface strengthening of hardware (such as bolts, nuts).

With its high efficiency and automation, it has become one of the important equipment for modern industrial surface treatment.
