External Pipe Shot Blasting Machine
Product Description:

The External Pipe Shot Blasting Machine (pipe descaling machine · pipe outer surface machine) is a special continuous shot blasting equipment exclusively for the external surface of steel pipes. It is used for the continuous shot blasting treatment of the outer surface of batch steel pipes before welding or coating, thoroughly removing rust, oxide scale, and other contaminants. It is mainly applied for rust removal, oxide scale removal, welding slag cleaning, and surface strengthening of seamless pipes, welded pipes, spiral pipes, etc., serving as a standard pretreatment device before coating and anti-corrosion treatment. It is an expert in pipe cleaning.

Core Working Principle

The steel pipe is conveyed by V-rollers or supporting wheels, moving forward while rotating at a constant speed through the blasting chamber.

Multiple blast wheels throw steel shots at a high speed of 60–100 m/s from various angles, striking the outer wall 360° to strip off rust layers, oxide scale, and welding slag.

The steel shots are recycled through screw conveyors, elevators, and separators, while dust is purified and discharged by a pulse cartridge dust collector.

Product Description

Application

  • Line pipe and OCTG. Outer-surface descaling ahead of 3PE, FBE and tape coating, where mill scale left in place is the main cause of coating disbondment.

  • Water, sewerage and thermal pipelines. Internal and external corrosion protection starts with a clean, profiled outer wall.

  • Structural and piling tube. Scaffolding, bridge piling and marine structures, where the outer wall must reach the specified grade before painting.

  • Pressure vessel and tank shells. Shell courses and vessel sections cleaned before wrapping or painting.

  • Wind power and engineering machinery. Large tubular components prepared for protective coating.

Core Advantages

  • Continuous & High Efficiency: Long pipes pass through integrally, with efficiency dozens of times higher than manual cleaning or pickling, suitable for mass production.

  • Uniform Cleaning: The combination of pipe rotation and multi-angle blast wheel arrangement ensures no dead corners on the outer wall and consistent surface roughness.

  • Wide Diameter Range: Conventional coverage of φ16–2800 mm, applicable for both long/short pipes and thick/thin-walled pipes.

  • Surface Strengthening: Forms a compressive stress layer, improving the fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of steel pipes.

  • Eco-friendly & Economical: No pickling waste liquid, high recycling rate of steel shots, and low operating cost.

  • Easy Installation: Mostly pit-free design, reducing infrastructure investment.

Technical Specifications

Q: What pipe diameter can an External Wall Shot Blasting Machine handle?

A: φ30 mm to φ2,000 mm across the QGW range. φ30–300 mm is covered by five 50 kW models; φ152–2,000 mm by QGW140 and QGW200 at 2 × 1,000 kg/min. Pipe outside these limits is a non-standard project and is reviewed by engineering before quotation — we do not quote a diameter we cannot pass.

Q: Can an external surface shot blaster clean the inside of the pipe as well?

A: No. This machine treats the external surface only. The bore is handled by a different machine type with a different conveying principle, and where both surfaces are in scope the two are normally sized together as a line. Say so at enquiry stage and we will size both at once.

Q: What surface cleanliness can External Pipe Shot Blasting Machine reach?

A: Sa 2½ to ISO 8501-1, measured against the Rust Grade and Surface Preparation standards. Roughness is specified by your coating system, typically 50–100 µm for pipeline coatings.

Q: How fast does an External Pipe Shot Blasting Machine run?

A: Through-feed speed depends on outside diameter, wall thickness, incoming rust and scale condition, and the grade you require — the same diameter at a different wall thickness runs at a different speed. We therefore quote speed per project rather than publish a single figure, and size the machine on abrasive flow rate, which is the honest basis for comparing capacity between suppliers.

Q: Can an External Pipe Shot Blasting Machine handle short pipe?

A: The machine is built for pipe that passes through as a continuous length. 3–7 m is the practical range. For 500 mm sections we normally recommend blasting full lengths and cutting afterwards: the handling cost and throughput loss of running short pieces individually usually outweighs the saving.

Q: Does External Wall Shot Blasting Machine need a pit?

A: Foundation and pit are built to our drawing and carried out by the buyer. Whether pit depth can be reduced is decided per model and per layout, and is confirmed on the general arrangement drawing rather than in advance.

Q: What does the price include, and how long is delivery?

A: The quotation is a complete set covering the blast system, the dust collection system and the model-specific wear parts. Ocean freight, insurance, duties, clearance and third-party inspection are excluded. Installation is quoted separately at USD 135 per man-day. Standard lead time is 35–60 days after receipt of order.

Q: Can external surface shot blaster be built for our voltage?

A: Yes — 380 V/50 Hz, 440 V/60 Hz and other combinations. The exact motor selection must be confirmed in writing at order, because power ratings differ between voltage variants.

Q: What about warranty and after-sales response?

A: 12 months from the date the final acceptance certificate is signed, excluding normal wear parts. Any quality issue receives a written response within 24 hours. A dedicated wear-parts inventory serves export customers; two years' stock on hand is recommended, and typical consumables are blast wheel blades, distributors, control cages and conveyor rollers.
